Eastern Dales - Bedale

Bedale by Mike Kipling

This charming market town in Lower Wensleydale is situated within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors National Parks. Bedale’s history can be traced back to Saxon times. It received its Market Charter in 1251 and still hosts a market every Tuesday.

Splendid Georgian buildings surround the broad sweeping market place housing unusual craft and antique shops. The magnificent church dominates the north end of the town and the 14th century Market Cross stands centrepiece.

Bedale has its own museum, golf course, plenty of places to eat and drink, and lots of opportunities to buy tasty goodies to take home with you.

But that’s not all - there are a number of excellent attractions for a great day out for the whole family. Bedale also benefits from the Wensleydale Railway, which offers regular summer services along Wensleydale - a relaxing way to explore without a car.
