Whilst it is just outside the Yorkshire Dales, the 2004 Entente Florale, Europe in Bloom winning spa town of Harrogate is close enough to make a good base for exploration or a daytrip from the Dales.
With the discovery of the first medicinal spring here in 1571, Harrogate rapidly became one of the foremost spas in Europe.
