In the shadows of mighty Ingleborough in The Three Peaks, this picturesque little market town is surrounded by natural wonders, both above and below ground. It makes an ideal base for leisurely walks or the challenge of the Three Peaks, plus there are trails for cyclists and mountain bikers.
There's also adventure underground. The amazing show caves offer a safe way to see the Yorkshire Dales' underworld, while for the more experienced, local instructors can take you potholing!
For those who prefer to remain above ground, there are instructors to take you climbing, abseiling or even paragliding! There are three golf courses nearby, an outdoor swimming pool and the fish are plentiful in Ingleton’s rivers.
For the less adventurous, the market place has an open-air market on Fridays and there are galleries, craft workshops, gift shops, a variety of 16th century buildings (including the charming Church of St. Mary’s with its 800 year old Norman font) and plenty of places to eat, drink and stay overnight.
The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway, with its famous Ribblehead viaduct, is also nearby. Both recently featured in BBC 1’s ‘The British Isles: A Natural History’ series.
