Made in the Dales - Delicious Dales

The Yorkshire Dales produces a mouth-watering selection of gourmet delights!

Many guesthouses, tearooms pubs and restaurants also specialise in local produce and offer tempting menus and delicious cakes using locally sourced Yorkshire Dales' ingredients.

So no need to bring supplies from home then - give yourself a real holiday and eat your way from Dale to Dale! Click here for more information.

All Wallace and Gromit fans will know how much they like ‘real’ Wensleydale Cheese the Wensleydale Creamery. But there is more than just delicious cheeses! Across the Yorkshire Dales you can find everything from locally produced sausages to chocolate, such as The Little Chocolate Shop, beers to preserves, puddings to pies, game meats to free-range eggs, and ice cream to naturally reared meat and home grown vegetables. So go on - spoil yourself!

Our Yorkshire Dales' open air markets and farmers’ markets are really popular. In 2005 Skipton's market was even nominated as a Group Travel Awards finalist! More information on the locations and the dates of farmers markets in and around the Yorkshire Dales can be found by clicking here.

The Yorkshire Dales plays host to food and drink festivals. Annual events take place in Leyburn and Skipton and have attracted national celebrities, such as Clarissa Dickson Wright (one of the stars of ‘The Two Fat Ladies’ TV series), Sophie Gregson (food writer and TV cook) and James Martin (‘Ready, Steady Cook’). Search our events webpages for details of these and many other Dales’ food and drink events.

There are a host of speciality food and drink retailers and producers across the Yorkshire Dales, many of whom are Rick Stein ‘Food Heroes’. You’ll find delicious locally reared meat and fish. There are homegrown vegetables and tasty preserves on sale at our farm shops, farmers’ markets and food festivals. You can even join a ‘behind the scenes’ tour and see some of the products being made.

The Yorkshire Dales is not only home to delicious local food but also drink. We have a number of microbreweries. The Western Dales is home to the Dent Brewery and the well-known Black Sheep and Theakston’s Breweries can be found in the Eastern Dales. Click here for a list of award winning Yorkshire Dales pubs accredited by the Cask Marque.

Local food and drink not only tastes better, it helps improve local people’s livelihoods and ensures they can continue to produce delicious products for you to enjoy.

Our farm shops sell locally produced meat, vegetables and preserves, and there are even opportunities to join ‘behind the scenes’ tours, where you can see products being made.
