You can beat the traffic, and be kinder to the environment by using other ways to get around the Yorkshire Dales. Why not take a guided tour with Throstlenest Dales Tours, you’ll get to take a break from driving and see more of the beautiful Dales’ countryside as you’ll be introduced to some of our more hidden treasures.
Alternatively, why not take a leisurely cruise on a canal boat with Pennine Boat Trips or use public transport. Then everyone has a chance to see the view over the dry stone walls!
Bus Travel
It’s easier to get around without a car than you might expect and public transport users can participate in the Dales Bus discount scheme. The market towns are all served by regular daily bus services, with less frequent services to the villages. More information can be found at www.traveldales.org.uk or visit www.dalesbus.org for more info on the Dales Bus services.
Alternatively, you can leave your car on the edge of the Dales and use the bus to take you to your destination. From Easter until the end of October, extra summer bus services are run especially for visitors to the Dales. To check times of bus services check out this Journey Planner website. If travelling in the Western Dales, tel: 01228 606000.
Another option is to take advantage of the Royal Mail Postbus service. The Postbus allows you to leave the car behind and explore some of the more remote areas of the Dales. Three routes are available across the Dales including, Skipton to Malham, Ripon to Masham and across Wensleydale. For more information on the Postbus service and timetable details for the specified routes click here.
