Walking

The Yorkshire Dales is a walkers paradise. There is everything from a gentle stroll along the riverbank to a hike across the moors, to a guided walk or heritage trail.

A WALKERS PARADISE

We have two protected areas for you to explore with both areas hosting a range of walks suitable for all abilities. For further information on walking in the AONB click here or for walking in the National Park click here. 
 
A number of long distance routes also pass through the area. These walks can be completed during a dedicated holiday or sampled in sections when combined with a scenic bus or rail journey.
 

The Dales Way - 129km (80 miles), route from Ilkley to Bowness-on-Windermere, passing through Wharfedale, Langstrothdale and Dentdale.

Pennine Way - 429km (268 miles), route passes through Airedale, Malhamdale, and the Three Peaks.

Nidderdale Way - 85km (53 miles), scenic walk around Nidderdale starting and finishing in Pateley Bridge.

Yorkshire 3 Peaks - 39km (24.5 miles), challenging walk taking in Penyghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

There is also a range of heritage trails that take you on a journey of discovery into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales countryside and its colourful past. Each trail has a map illustrating the suggested route and location of historic sites.
