Must-Have Hardware Tools Every Homeowner Should Have

Must-Have Hardware Tools Every Homeowner Should Have

Not all the time will you be able to have help with things that need to be fixed around your home. That is why it is very important to have the basic tools at home at all times. These tools can make any fixes easier for you. But what are these must-have home hardware tools that you should invest in? Let’s go ahead and find out.

Duct Tape

Duct tape is useful for almost anything. And you can find it almost anywhere you go, even the grocery store. So why not grab one and add it to your toolbox?  It’s one of the most versatile tools in a home, and it’s important for mending and repairing tasks. But remember to use it on cool surfaces only, as heat reduces the adhesive’s effectiveness.

Hammer

Nails are driven into and extracted from surfaces using clawed hammers. They can also be used for demolishing and you will need a mallet hammer for that since it gives you better control. A simple clawed hammer should do. For added durability, choose fiberglass or metal handles over wood.

Pliers

Start with the basics:  cutting pliers, needle nose pliers, slip-joint pliers. You can add more as needed. Electrical work requires needle-nose and slip-joint pliers to grip, tighten, and loosen metal pieces. You will also need cutting pliers to cut wires.

Screwdrivers

There are numerous situations in the home where tightening or loosening a screw is needed. In this case, it is crucial that you have a screwdriver in your toolbox. There are several screwdriver types but for simple home repairs, you’ll need a Phillips’s head. Many hardware stores sell a screwdriver base with interchangeable heads. This way,  you don’t need to have all of them. They usually come in a set where the heads can be interchanged to whatever you need to use.

Tape Measure

With a tape measure, you can measure whenever you need to. In addition to basic home maintenance, the tape measure can be used when hanging artwork and shelves, calculating how new furniture will fit, and more.

Wrench

Each wrench has a specific purpose. For example, an Allen wrench is used to make furniture, whereas other wrenches are used to remove and tighten nuts and bolts. An adjustable tool, on the other hand, is a very handy tool since it can be sized to fit the nut or bolt being worked on. It is best to have at least one of the Allen wrench, open-end wrench, combination wrench, adjustable wrench, and socket wrench.

These are just some of the many tools that you need in your toolbox. Even if you are not a handyman or you do not necessarily enjoy DIY projects, it is important that you have most of these tools ready in case you need it. Once you have completed the five items listed, then you can add more like a utility knife, handsaw, level, flashlight, electric drill, and more. You wouldn’t know when that time will come so it is best that you are ready.
